Books

I finished a book that I have had on my bookshelf for more than a year.  I read another book by Elizabeth Berg last year - The Art of Mending - and really enjoyed it.  Last night I finished The Year of Pleasures. 

I loved this book!  It made me laugh and cry.  It is the story of a woman who loses her husband and moves to the mid-west to a town she never visited before - on a whim.  It was so good - one of those books you didn't want to end.

I will definitely be looking up additional books by this author.

Girls Night Out

Book club was a blast tonight!  Sometimes it can be a real pain because the dynamics of the group has changed...some girls have left due to some of the newer members...who can be...loud...overbearing, etc.  But tonight everyone behaved, the food was delicious - Mexican and margaritas - how can you go wrong - and...we actually discussed the book.  There are many many book club nights that we only discuss the book in passing....which is annoying when you've actually bought the book and read it.  But tonight we had a great discussion.

Book Club

Book Club tonight!  I finished the book and really liked it.  19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult was the book this month.

This book was very apropos considering what happened at VA Tech last month.

I've lent  the book to my son's girlfriend who is a high school senior.  Every high school student should read it...it may make them think twice before bullying a fellow student.

The weather here has been glorious!  Temps in the 70's with no humidity.  The only bad thing is the pollen in the air.  My youngest son has really been suffering.

Hubby is out of town for 3 days for a class.  It means no cooking for me!  Tonight our book club is going to a new Mexican restaurant and my son is on his own.  Tomorrow night we are meeting friends for dinner.  Of course this won't help my weight loss unless I make some good choices.

Better get to  work!

Friday Night Knitting Club

I finished the book Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs.  I loved this book and since I knew Julia Roberts was making this into a movie as well as starring in it, I kept picturing her as the main character.  The end was such a surprise to me...not what I expected. Anyone who belongs to a knitting group or book group etc, will enjoy the dynamics of this book.

Now I am reading Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult - how appropriate for what has been going on this week in the news.

In knitting, I am working on a shrug that started as a shawl but after watching an episode of Knitty Gritty I was encouraged to turn it into a shrug.  We'll see how if turns out.  I loved the yarn by Wool in the Woods - smooth to kit with alothough it did split easily - but the colors are fabulous.  Right know I am adding - free-hand - a crocheted edging along the sleeve edges and will be adding other edges along the neckline and bottom - not sure what yet.  I've found through my knitting - that even though I consider myself a novice knitter - that I like to make things up as I go along. Aren't these colors GORGEOUS?  I just did a search online for the yarn info and found out they are from my area - Cool!
