Our family tradition on my side of the family is to gather a weekend or two before Christmas instead of Christmas day. Since my sister and her family, my parents and our family did not live near one another it was easier to do this. Now with my sister gone it is a smaller gathering - especially this year since my sister's kids were not around. Jon is in Marine boot camp and Allie had district band. But my parents drove up from NC and our youngest and his wife came from NEPA for the weekend. Typically we have the gathering at our house but since our oldest son and DIL have a new baby we all headed to their house - in the midst of a snow storm....
The snow was only gentling falling when we went. No big deal as we all had 4 wheel drive vehicles. My only concern was my 70 year old dad who had knee replacement 6 weeks ago - he just can't afford to fall.
We had a lovely day - lots of laughs - especially with Miss Avery enjoying all of the attention. Little Miss Harper slept most of the afternoon as they had a family photo session in the morning and she was exhausted.
Avery and Yoda - this little one loves Star Wars!
Heather and Jeremy - my DIL and oldest
Uncle Matt and Avery
My pictures are sparse since I forgot my camera and only had cellphone shots. Plus so many were blurry because Avery rarely sits still!
We had a treacherous hour + ride home as the snow had picked up and roads were terrible. Combine that with crazy drivers and it was tense.
Yesterday we had a quiet morning at home - I cooked a big breakfast for us including my parents and Matt and Jess. Then the kids got on the road for their drive home. We later went out for dinner to celebrate our 30th anniversary - 30!!! I am very lucky to have married this sweet man.
Today we are taking an additinal day off to Christmas shop, look at new countertops and enjoy a peaceful day.
