I am usually the person who is loving winter weather. I typically love the cold weather and snow...nothing is better than being snowed in.
But for some reason this year I am longing for Spring. I have some big plans for our outdoor space...tiny as it is. We want to add a patio next to our new addition with a pergola. We have been throwing around ideas, looking for inspiration in magazines, the internet and HGTV.
On Friday we took the afternoon off and went to the PA Garden Expo. Just walking into the display area felt like Spring. There were so many bulbs blooming in the display area...tulips, hyacinths, daffodils and more. It smelled wonderful! The expo wasn't as big as I ahd hoped...there were more vendors than displays...but we thoroughly enjoyed walking through and seeing all the great ideas. Nearly every garden display had a pergola...granted most of them were huge...much larger than our needs...but it gave us some great ideas. Sadly I have no pictures of any of the pergolas...just some smaller detail shots from them.
But I did take pictures of my favorite tree. There were tons of birch trees used in the display gardens. Not sure if it is because this is the newest trend in trees for the garden or because they are small and portable to add to a display. But for whatever reason I was in heaven! I have always loved birch trees but our trip last summer to New Hampshire just reinforced this love. They were everywhere. My poor hubby probably got so tired of me saying "oh look at the birches...love them".
We have a tiny back yard with overhead power lines that limit what type of trees we can plant and their location. We looked at River Birches last summer to plant next to our garage. We put off buying one until we finished siding the garage. But after seeing so many this past week I can't wait until Spring comes so we can get moving on this project.

If I had that in mind for my backyard, I wouldn't be able to wait for Spring either! I can't wait to see what you do with the space. Birches are really pretty - there's something so serene about them.
