It seems like my new job will have some interesting perks. I was invited by our bankers to attend the PA Chamber Annual Dinner last night. I am not a very political person so when I heard it was having a debate between PA's governor candidates - Dan Onorato and Tom Corbett - I wasn't sure about going. But sometimes you have to do the politics of work - so I accepted the invitation along with my boss. There was a cocktail party first - so crowded - filled with lots of men in suits and a handful of women. I think the crowd totaled about 1400 people. So I mingled - talked to the president of my son's university, a family friend and a few others. These types of events are just not me.
Then we were called in to dinner. The event was at the Hershey Lodge - a very nice setting. A local newscaster mc'd the event. They had lovely dinner music, a wonderful dinner - except for the one weird side dish - some orangey root vegetable dish which would have been lovely pureed except this was chunky and had a weird texture - that combined with the color was a little hard to stomach.
They had an impersonator who came in as Barack Obama who was very funny. Then the evening started with the introduction of the moderator - Ted Koppel - who is a tiny man - which surprised me. The debate was brief - maybe 75 minutes - and went well - they answered the questions instead of the usual political dance around the question. And they were fairly civil to one another. Of course there were some jabs at the others stand on issues but no nastiness that we sometimes see at these type of debates. Overall a lovely evening.

It sounds like a great evening! I'm not much for the parties but I love the political stuff.

That's not my type of event either but you make it sound like a lot of fun!
